"Weird Al" Yankovic and Puddles Pity Party
Deliver a Hilarious, Theatrical Spectacle Under the Stars in The Woodland for a Night of Bigger & Weirder Comedy Rock
Puddles Pity Party: Heartache and Humor
Puddles Pity Party opened
at 8:00pm with his silent clown walk-on, backed by an old-school
sounding, narrated children's party flick playing on the big screen
behind him and immediately captivated the crowd. Performing entirely
without speaking, he combined exaggerated pantomime, silent comedy, and
a mix of covers and emotional visuals, even cheekily inserting clips of
Kevin Costner throughout, creating a deeply theatrical experience.
Puddles started off his show with "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows," with an eerie tenderness. While using his phone as a "Cry Cam" to film fan's reactions during “Come Cry With Me, the
audience had that surreal question in their eyes “Is this actually
happening?” While a taped "Who wants to help the Clown" filled the big screen he invited a young man on stage to pay "guitar" for a version of "Crazy Train." His powerful vocals on “Stairway to Gilligan's Island” backed by Kevin Costner clips from Water World left many amused and impressed at the same time.
His tribute mashup of “My Heart Will Go On”
and Metallica's "Enter Sandman/One" combined with Kevin Costner clips still
rolling on the big screen was a moment that somehow felt both
proclamation and confession. It lingered in the night air long after he
finished.
"Weird Al" Yankovic Delivers Hits and Parody
Weird Al took the stage at 8:50pm and brought with him a polished, high‑energy
production befitting the Bigger & Weirder 2025 Tour: eight
musicians, costume changes, video interludes, and elaborate staging
kept the evening non-stop and theatrical.
Al kicked off his set with “Tacky,” singing by remote camera on his tour bus, all the while making his way to the stage in a Technicolor outfit and finally bursting into the amphitheater from a side crowd entrance to ignite the Pavilion. Next Weird Al began by taking the crowd on a journey through his show which focused on originals and style‑parodies like the corporate satire "Mission Staterment" and next with the accordion fueled "Polkamania,"
a whirlwind polka medley stitching together hits from Billie Eilish,
Ariana Grande (“Thank U, Next”), Cardi B (“WAP”) and more into
accordion‑driven chaos. The crowd roared in delight under the pavilion
lights. Weird Al even ventured out into the amphitheater crowd during the doo-wop parody "One More MInute," sitting in fans laps, donning them with colorfull scarves all the while venturing up the isle singing to the fans.
Costume changes arrived next in rapid succession: Kurt Cobain wigs for "Smells Like Nirvana," hazmat suits for "Dare to Be Stupid" and multiple outfit swaps during the medley which included
fan‑faves like "Eat It," "Like a Surgeon," "Word Crimes," "Canadian Idiot" and a surprising turn to parody deep cuts like "Ricky" resurfaced mid‑medley for the first time since the mid‑1980s. Each transformation packed its own laugh and nostalgic blow.
Puddles even made a mid-show appearance for a duet with Weird Al on the song "Happy Together." After running through more Weird Al classics like "Stop Fowarding That Crap to Me," "White & Nerdy" which featured Al riding a Segway around the stage and "Amish Paradise," Weird Al kept teasing his exit donned in a silk cape all the while asking the crowd if they wanted more.
Weird Al Returns for an Epic Encore
The
encore was led off by a cloaked Darth Sidious leading the audience in a
vigerous competitive cheer session. He then started playing "Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565"
on keyboard as a complete cast from star wars: Chewbacca, multiple
Stormtroopers, a fully functioning R2-D2, Darth Vader, Bubba Fett and
Weird Al as Obi-Wan Kenobi filed onto stage. Starting with “Cell Phones” and culminating in a galaxy-spanning finale - “The Saga Begins.” Weird Al finished with a magical, sing-along fan‑pleaser “Yoda.” that carried across generations.
Final Take:
The
production value was a stunning amalgam of vaudeville, rock, and
Broadway flair: projection cues, choreographed backing vocals, comedic
interstitial commercials and video bits, all paced like a silent-film
inspired storyboard come to life. This Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion show delivered exactly what the Bigger & Weirder tour promised: outrageous visuals, razor‑sharp musicianship, and comedic timing with emotional color. Puddles Pity Party brilliantly set the stage with performance art that was enigmatic, moving, absurd, and unforgettable. Weird Al
then soared into a theatrical parody perfection jubilee for longtime
fans and tied‑together absurdity for newcomers. If you were there or
wish you had been, that's the kind of night it shaped up to be.
