After four decades on the Heaven's Trail, Tesla is proving that there is still Now Way Out.
Currently
making their way across the country, Tesla's concert at the House of
Blues in Houston on June 7, 2024, was a testament to their enduring
appeal and musical prowess. The show was part of their 2024 "Keepin’ It
Real" tour, and it did not disappoint. The band delivered a
well-balanced setlist that included both their classic hits like “Love
Song”, “What You Give”, “Mama’s Fool” and “Heaven's Trail (No Way
Out)” as well as their newest track “All About Love”.
Jeff
Keith’s unique vocals, although not as youthful as in the band’s early
days, were still powerful and engaging. Frank Hannon and Dave Rude on
guitars, are nothing short of mesmerizing, each delivering solos that
are both technically impressive and emotionally charged, complemented
by Brian Wheat on bass and Steve Brown on drums, creating a robust
sound.
Tesla's
connection with the audience was a highlight of the evening. Their
genuine interactions and the emotional delivery of their songs created
an atmosphere that was both intimate and electrifying. The production
elements, including sound quality and lighting, were expertly handled
ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees. The audience was
surprised and delighted when Jeff announced that they were adding a
special acoustic song, "Paradise" to the evening's set. The only song I
personally feel like was left out was "The Way It Is" which was on the double platinum The Great Radio Controversy but we can't have it all.
The
opening act, Kurt Deimer, set the stage with a compelling performance
that energized the crowd and perfectly set the tone for Tesla’s set.
Deimer impressed the audience with his unique blend of hard rock and
personal storytelling. Kurt happened to mention that he called Houston
his home town since he had spent his childhood years going to school
here, also mentioning that he was looking forward to going out on the
town after the show with friends. The set featured a mix of original
songs and
covers such as his rendition of Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar," which
resonated well with the crowd. Overall
Tesla proved that they are still a formidable presence in the rock
scene, delighting long-time fans and newcomers alike with their
timeless music and energetic performance. Tesla’s "Keepin’ It Real" tour
runs through November with an appearance at the inaugural Mountain
Music Fest in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. More dates are expected to be
added to the trek.
