After what seemed
like decades, actually, 18 years
to be exact, the Scorpions have finally made a stop in H-Town. Having
started
the Rock Believer tour 4 months ago with a single show at Madison
Square
Garden the band then crossed the pond for a European run before
returning
to North America. This time however, Houston was firmly in their
sights.
For the fans that have been waiting patiently for their return they
were
not disappointed. With the unexpected exit of opener Whitesnake because
of David Coverdale's medical reasons, Swedish female rockers
Thundermother
were left to pick up the slack. The female 4 piece did a good job
rocking
out and getting the crowd in the mood for the "Main Event".
The Scorpions started
with "Gas in the Tank",
one of three new songs from their latest release of new material (Rock
Believer
2022). The stage show had lots of lights and a long ramp leading into
the
crowd. "Make It Real" was next, followed by the classic "The
Zoo".
Klaus Meine's vocals
were good, however, it was
noticeable that time is catching up to the seasoned veteran.
The 14 song main set
ended with "Big City
Night" to a standing ovation but in checking my watch I was a little
disappointed that this was going to be a short night. The encore songs
were
"No One Like You" and finished with "Rock You Like A Hurricane"
and I was out the door by 9:50.
