The Big Finish USA '24 Tour Kickoff

Mr. Big

Last summer’s announcement by Mr. Big that they would be kicking off The Big Finish USA ’24 tour right here in H-Town meant that everybody had plenty of time to anticipate their first return appearance since 2017. With Warehouse Live in East Downtown closing its doors for good at the end of the 2023 year this would be the first rock tour to play the newly rebranded Warehouse Live Midtown (Formally Rise Rooftop) and the fans came out on this Friday evening to show their support.

Opening the night promptly at 7pm was the local guitar virtuoso Kari K. Karim and his supporting band. After playing for almost an hour Karim and his crew finished with a highly received cover of the Soungarden hit "Outshined".

Hosting the night’s event was the one and only Eddie Trunk. Eddie has become a regular in H-town to host many of the top billed shows as of late. Once he introduced the band to the packed house Mr. Big took the stage with a captivating energy that set the tone for the entire night. The band's musical prowess was on full display, with tight instrumentals and Eric Martin's vocals hitting every note with precision. The chemistry among band members was palpable, creating a seamless and enjoyable listening experience. Being the first night of the USA tour a few technical errors were delt with during the first half of the set and then the show continued forward.
The setlist was a perfect blend of classic hits starting off with “Addicted To That Rush”, "Take Cover" and “Undertow”. The next part of the set was comprised of the Lean Into It album plated in its entirety. Mr. Big showcased their versatile catalog, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish.

Venue Atmosphere: The choice of Warehouse Live Midtown added to the overall concert experience. The acoustics were good, allowing the nuances of each instrument to shine. The lighting design complemented the mood of each song, creating a visually dynamic show.

Audience Interaction: Eric Martin, Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert and drummer Nick D'Virgilio made a genuine connection with the audience. Whether through anecdotes, banter, or encouraging crowd participation, Mr. Big demonstrated their appreciation for the fans, creating a sense of intimacy in the glass encased rooftop venue.

Memorable Moments: For the band’s encore performance the band members all switched instruments with Sheehan taking vocals, Martin playing bass, Gilbert behind the skins and D'Virgilio handling guitar duties as the finished the evening with a cover of The Olympics and The Young Rascals #1 hit "Good Lovin’".

Overall Impression: The Mr. Big concert at Warehouse Live Midtiwn was an unforgettable experience. The band's musical prowess, engaging stage presence, and the electric atmosphere of the venue combined to create a night that will be cherished by fans. Whether you're a long-time follower or a newcomer to their music, a Mr. Big concert is a must-see.
