When I first saw that A Flock of Segulls would be
performing at the House of Blues H-Town I had
an immediate flashback to the early MTV days of New Wave and funky hairstyles.During
1983 A Flock of Seagulls were in heavy MTV rotation with their
song 'I Ran'. While being more of a rocker during that time period I
did frequent the New Wave dance clubs in
town from time to time, so I was a little curious to see how the test
of time
had fared for A Flock of Seagulls.
On stage first for the night was Strangelove - The Depeche Mode
Experience, a fitting tribute to the music of Depeche Mode. A Los Angeles based tribute band,
Strangelove delivered all the sound and feel of a true Depeche Mode concert to
all of the fans that were there to re-live their younger lives of New Wave
clubbers. Finishing their 16 song set list with 'Personal Jesus' and 'Never Let Me
Down Again' the crowd was now properly prepared for a trip back in time.
A Flock of Seagulls led by Mike Score took the stage next with Kevin Rankin on
drums, Gord Deppe on guitar and Pando on bass with Mike on vocals, keyboard and
guitar. The sold out crowd was really into the music and sang and swayed
through the entire 14 song set. Mike sounded great and didn't disappoint
vocally. Finally, with the song that everybody had been anticipating, 'I Ran', everyone
raised their phone to be sure to get a recording of the timeless classic.
A
Flock of Seagulls are currently touring across 4 Countries with their next show
in Anaheim, Ca.
